How to slow the signs of ageing

22/09/2020

Ageing happens to us all. For some, it seems to be kinder, than to others. There are a number of things you can do to slow the signs of ageing if you’re in your 20s and 30s…even going into your 40s. Here are our top anti-ageing tips…

1. Wear sunscreen every day – whatever the weather, sunscreen should be part of your daily routine to protect your skin. Your sunscreen should be at least an SPF30 and say ‘broad-spectrum’ on the label which means it protects against UVA and UVB rays

2. Avoid the sun – tanning is the biggest mistake young women make in damaging their skin. Too much sun can make skin look discoloured and can damage elastin and collagen. Instead, fake it!

3. Don’t smoke – Smoking speeds up the breakdown of collagen and constricts blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients to your skin. If you’re smoke, you’re more likely to wrinkle earlier and no-body wants that!

4. Alcohol dehydrates skin – A drink or two with friends is fine but drinking too much alcohol dehydrates the skin and dilates blood vessels. If you drink too much, you could develop broken vessels and rosacea, when the skin is marked with redness and tiny pimples

5. Use retinoids or retinols (a type of vitamin A) – Retinoids are prescription face medications such as Retin-A, that keep skin looking younger. Retinols are a weaker form found in over the counter skin care products. They are considered to be the most effective over the counter treatment to smooth skin and prevent wrinkles. They cause the skin to peel and reveal a more supple layer

Looking after your skin is encouraged when undertaking any kind of aesthetics treatment to give the best results, both inside and out. Speak to us about your skincare in your consultation to see how we can help.
