How to live young

22/09/2020

It’s a secret we all want to know…how do you stop ageing and live young? We don’t have all the answers (although our treatments go some way to turning back the hands of time) but we do practice what we preach and follow these healthy living smart strategies that help us to naturally live young.

1. Take a break – Recent studies suggest that stress causes a physical change in the body that can accelerate ageing so take a break. Herbert Benson, the author of The Relaxation Response, suggests the most effective way to calm things down in life is to meditate for as little as ten minutes a day. So sit in a quiet place, close your eyes, relax your muscles, roll your head, neck and shoulders and breathe deeply

2. Get active – regular exercise is a great way to lose weight, tone muscle and feel good about yourself. It’s also a great mood booster, can help you think clearly and reduces stress. Win-win. If you can, try for three 20-minute workouts a week – this can be something as simple as a walk to the shops, a swim or an aerobics class. If you rope in friends, you’re more likely to keep each other motivated too

3. Enjoy superfruits – Superfruits, we’ve all heard of them and they promise endlessly good things but are they worth it? We think so, it’s worth a try anyway! Pomegranate juice has been found to lower cholesterol and blood pressure and can also protect the skin from damage caused by UV rays. The Goji berry boost 500 times more vitamin C by weight than an orange and is considered to be the most abundant source of carotenoids, a type of antioxidant, on earth

4. Look after your skin – “The most important preventive measure you can take against the sun is to build up your antioxidant levels and maintain adequate levels of vitamins A, C, D and E,” says Jennifer Landa, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of BodyLogicMD. “Eating lots of brightly coloured organic fruits and vegetables also boosts levels of these vitamins. These powerful vitamins work as a natural sunscreen for the body, aiding in the prevention of skin ageing and skin cancer.” Apply a vitamin C serum under moisturizers and makeup and always use sunscreen to protect against UVA and UVB rays which cause ageing and skin cancer

5. Have a brew…of green tea – Green tea is rightly lauded in the health world as having many benefits. It has been found to reduce the risk of breast cancer as well as being an effective weight management agent because it increases your metabolism. Sip on two to three cups a day
